It is a nice experience to see them catch fishes. You can also buy the fresh catch from them at Govt. prices. Henry’s Island has recently earned reputation as a bird watching site. Some of the birds sighted at Henry’s Island are Lesser Whistling Ducks, Eurasian Wigeon, Gadwall, Streak-throated Woodpecker, Black-Rumped Flameback, Kingfisher, Common Snipe, Ruddy Turnstone, Red Knot and others.

How to go ?

You have to turn left from Jelighat stop which is some 4 km before Bakkhali. On driving some 1.5 km, you will come across the lodges one by one.

After reaching Hasnabad, you need to avail the option of vans to reach the ferry dock, from where motor boats should be availed in order to reach Machranga Dwip. You can also reach  Machranga Dwip by hiring a boat from Taki’s ferry ghat.

After reaching Raichak, you need to avail the ferry service for Kukrahati, which is the gateway to the port city of Haldia. Haldia Municipality operates ferry services at a regular interval of 30 minutes and it takes around 15 minutes to reach Kukrahati. From Kukrahati, take a cycle van for Patikhali and then again enjoy a ferry service on the river Haldi to Meen Dwip at Nayachar. You can also drive to Haldia (around 150 kms away) directly from Kolkata and then catch a ferry to Kukrahati.

Kalash Dweep

The Kalash camp is located beside the banks of the Bay of Bengal and lying beside it is the Kalash beach. Created by forest conservation department the Kalash camp  spans over an area of 4 acres. The place is well protected with a fence of 10 feet high and 20 feet trench, and yet it is not sufficient enough to prevent Royal Bengal Tigers from coming to the beach in search of the sweet water pond located there. An outing in Kalash Island is really adventurous. Touring all alone in the beach is strictly prohibited and must be assisted by forest rangers as the island is often visited by the Royal Bengal tigers. The island remains uninhabited otherwise and the Olive Ridley turtles that come here for nesting during winter borders the beach.

How to go ?

If you are going to Kalash Island directly, then you can board a bus or a car to reach Ramganga via Diamond Harbour-Kulpi. From there, you have to hurry a bit and start your journey before the high tide to reach Kalash Island in 3 hours time. Another way to reach Kalash is using the Bidya River from Bani camp to enter the Chulkati channel which will take you to Kalash camp.

The caves are located in the Araku Valley of the Ananthagiri hill range and drained by the Gosthani River. At the entrance point, the cave measures around 100 m horizontally and 75 m vertically. How to go ?

Howrah – Koraput Express connects Howrah and Koraput via Sambalpur. It takes around 23 hrs to reach Koraput. Padua is 70 kms from Koraput – you can get hired cars connecting Koraput and Padua. However, the best way to reach Padua is from Vishakapatnam. You can board the Howrah Yashwanthpuram Express to reach Vishakapatnam at 11:00 am next day (it’s a 14 hrs journey from Howrah). You can enjoy the sea beaches of Vishakapatnam the whole day and hire a car or take the 1VK (Vishakapatnam – Kirrandul Express) next morning to Padua. The 1VK Express stops at Padua station for a few minutes after crossing Araku. You can also reach Padua from Araku by road (which is just 30 kms away). If you are travelling by car from Vishakapatnam, then Padua is around 130 kms from Vishakapatnam.

Paradeep Beach

The famous Gahirmatha Wildlife Sanctuary located on the fringes of Bhitarkanika Wildlife Sanctuary is also a great place to see the nesting of Olive Ridley Turtles. The caves of Udayagiri and Ratnagiri are also located nearby.

Things to do at Paradeep: Enjoy long walks along the beach, visit temples, take camel rides on the beach and watch the wonderful sunsets. You can visit the local temples or go for a boat safari through the mangrove forests.

How to go ?

Cuttack station is the nearest railhead of Paradip. You have to hire taxis from Cuttack to reach Paradip. You would also get hired cars to Paradip from Bhuvaneshwar. Paradip is only 125 kilometers from Bhuvaneshwar. National Highway 5A passes through Paradeep, connecting the sea side with Lalitgiri, Udayagiri and Ratnagiri.

8 km from Pondicherry situated in Chunnamber, is the Paradise Beach. In this place river  Chunnamber meets with the ocean making it an ideal spot  for picnic. The beautiful Island is fringed with  coconut trees. One needs to take a boat, to cross the backwater and  reach this breath-taking island.

How to reach the Island

From Chunnamber you need to take rowing boat or speed boat to reach the Island. Its a 20 min exotic journey.

The boat Cost 75 INR person (20 min ride). Speed Boat for 2 person 800 INR for 15 min or 4 person 600 INR for 15 min. These boats take you back from the island  free of cost. This service is available till 5 Pm

The turquoise  ocean water here is crystal clear. The beach is  less crowded so you can have your own little time. Don’t forget to take Sunscreen Lotion as the sun will roast you. There are no water activities available but you can bring your own volley ball or rent it. There are  beach shacks which offer food and beverages, but it would be  a good idea to carry your own food. Only Chunnamber lake offer variety of  water sports. If you are planing for an overnight stay, Chunnamber Tree House or Resorts would be  the best option.
