Tadoba-Andhari, Maharashtra – Home to the varied species of wild animals

Often referred to as “The Jewel of Vidharba“, the Tadoba National Park lies in the district of Chandrapur in the north-eastern part of Maharashtra. Tadoba Andhari Reserve is the largest national park in Maharashtra spanning over an area of 625.4 sq. km. Located in the heart of a reserved forest, it is an infinite assemblage of innumerable species of trees and plants – and wildlife that includes tigers, panthers, sloth bears, hyenas, jackals, wild dogs, bison, barking deer, nil gai, sambar, and cheatal. Besides this place is also a haven for the bird lovers. The Tadoba National Park and Andhari Wildlife Santuary together form the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve. The park derives its name from “Taru” the local deity, whereas the Andhari river that meanders through the forest gives the sanctuary its name.

Best time to visit Tadoba National Park: The best time to visit here is from February to May.

How to go ?

By Air 

The nearest airport is at Nagpur, about 140 km away. Flights from Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Kolkata fly regularly to Nagpur. Taxis can be hired from the airport to reach the national park.

By Rail 

The nearest railhead is at Chandrapur, 45 km from the park. The railway station is connected to Mumbai, Delhi, Nagpur, Chennai, Hyderabad and Jhansi. Buses and taxis are available from the railway station to reach the reserve. Tourists from Kolkata have to reach Nagpur. From Nagpur you can hire private cars to reach Tadoba which is 140 km from Nagpur.

By Road  

State transports buses from Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Jalgaon do ply regularly to Chandrapur and Chimur located about 45 and 32 km respectively. Local transport can be hired to reach the reserve from Chadrapur and Chimur.
