Amboli is a hill station in the south of Maharashtra, at an altitude of 690 m. Bounded by the southern ranges of the Sahyadri hills the place abounds in a variety of fairly unique flora and fauna. It is the last mountain resort before the coastal highlands take a deep breath, to form flat beaches.

Hiranyakeshi Temple

It is here that the Hiranyakeshi River originates. The temple is built around the caves from where the water flows down to form the Hiranyakeshi river hence the temple so named. Alongside the temple there is also a cave which locals say can be explored.

Maruti Mandir

Maruti Mandir is the house of Ganesh and Ram temple along with the Samadhi of a saint from Amboli.

Kavleshet Point

Kavlesad point in Amboli provides some breath taking valley views. One can also find many small waterfalls from the view point during the monsoon. Try shouting your name from the valley that will echo it back to you. One would have to take a detour from the highway and drive over (very) poorly maintained roads for over 3 km to reach the destination and would not find any signs of human presence except the occasional vehicle that passes by.

Nangarta Falls

Located on the SH 121 at a distance of 10 km from the main bus stand of Amboli, Nangarta falls is a narrow ravine into which the water flows from a height of over 40 feet. During the monsoons’, the heavy pour of water makes a hell of a noise that’s should not be missed. There is a bridge and a view point that have been constructed near the falls from where one can enjoy the beauty of the falls.

By Rail

The nearest railhead is Sawantwadi which is 28 kms from Amboli. Swantwadi is connected by rail to Margaon which is connected to almost major cities in India by rail like like Kolkata, Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune  etc. Regular buses are available from Sawantwadi to Amboli.

By Road

Amboli is well connected by road to cities in Goa and Mumbai. Mostly taxies and three wheeled rickshaws are running in these roads. Tourist buses are available from Mumbai to Sawantwadi. It is a distance of nearly 525 km.
